We are very excited about how the Royal Crusaders soccer team finished the 2008 season. In regional play, we completed the regular season with four wins and four loses. This put us in second place tied with Kentucky Christian University. Going into the regional tournament we were third seed playing Kentucky Christian in the first round. The Royal Crusaders came out fired up and ready to play because Kentucky Christian had defeated us in regular season games twice, by a score of three to four. The Royal Crusaders scored first to take the lead in the first half. Mid-way through the second half the Royal Crusaders scored another goal, to make the score two to zero. Kentucky Christian ended up scoring with 30 seconds left in the game off a set piece inside the eighteen-yard box to make the final score two to one. It was a great team win that sent us into the championship game. Playing for a regional championship with a team that only had three seniors was quite an accomplishment for the Royal Crusaders this year. The team ended up losing to a veteran team from Johnson Bible College, one to four. This loss left us in second place to end the season.
We were also blessed to have senior defenseman Charlie Schenck and sophomore midfielder Sam Knickerbocker named to first team all region and senior defenseman Gabriel Miller and freshman midfielder Daniel Nicely named to second team all region. We congratulate these young men for their region wide recognition.
The Royal Crusaders Soccer team would like to thank their fans for their prayers and support in the 2008 season. We would like to praise and thank the Lord for the many opportunities that He has given us to serve Him through soccer this season..
